British Indoor Rowing Championships 2009 - 22 November 2009

Gold Medal for Eloise!

Trent Rowing Club saw a succesful end to the year at the 2009 British Indoor Rowing Championships held at the NIA in Birmingham on Sunday 22nd November. Star of the show Eloise McMahon competed against 116 atheles in the womens J13 event to take the gold medal.

The 2009 BIRC was the first indoor rowing competition for Eloise who rowed an impressive 790 metres over the three minute race. She took the lead from the off, pulling further from the field with each stroke. It proved too much for her opposition to catch her with second place Sophia Parvizi-Wayne of Camden coming in 7 metres short with a final distance of 783 metres.

Since starting to row in Feburay of this year Eloise, who attends William Allitt School in Newhall, has shown great promise both on and off the water. Following success at Burton and Stourport regattas she took to the water solo for the first time at York Sprint regatta back in September to win the womens J13 single sculls event by a comfortable margin. With a successful season already under her belt Eloise aims to race at the National Rowing Championships of Great Britan next July.

The day also saw Ben Eames race in the J16 event to come 9th of 72. The J16 event was raced over 2000 meters and Ben came in with a very respectable time of 6:41.1, setting a new personal best. The event saw the Gold medal go to Jack Beaumont of Maidenhead RC in time of 6:15.3 breaking the long standing record of 6:19.1 which stood from 1995.

Ben is also preparing for the 2010 season, hoping to perform well under the watchful eyes of the junior selectors for Team GB.
