Northwich Regatta - 27 May 2007

Trent Rowing Club travelled to Cheshire over the Bank holiday weekend to compete on the River Weaver at Northwich Regatta.

Opening Trent’s win account on the Sunday of the event was Matthew Purdy in Mens Junior 14 Sculls. Purdy pushed away from his opposition from Hollingworth Lake off the start. Increasing his lead over the 1000metre course he won this straight final convincingly.

Next to bring home the silverware was Gemma Barker. Racing in Womens Novice Sculls Barker had it all to do in this highly competitive senior event. Using the advantage of the inside lane Barker pushed ahead and held her lead for the remainder of the race to win the event.

Nick Edge sculled well in his straight final of Mens Senior 1 Sculls. Facing opposition from Northwich Rowing Club Edge was able to forge a lead through the middle section of the race to win the event.

Returning to the water to compete on the Monday was Matt Purdy. Purdy never looked like losing against Northwich in the final of Mens Junior 14 Sculls. Pushing hard for the finish line he won what was his fourth consecutive Single Sculling event in his debut season.

Robert Gipson and Kenny Holmes competed together over the 500metre sprint course in Mens Senior 3 Double Sculls. In the straight final of the event Gipson and Holmes took their opposition off the start. Continuing to move away from the crew from Chester University the Trent duo won the event in convincing style.

Nick Edge doubled up competing in both the Senior 1 and Elite status Single Sculling events. Sculling confidently Edge pushed ahead of his well matched opposition from Stourport and took the event win in Senior 1. Another tight fought final saw Edge triumph in Elite Sculls claiming Trent’s seventh win of the weekend.
