Stourport Regatta Weekend 2009 - 16 August 2009
9 Wins for Team Trent at Stourport BC's 2009 Regatta Weekend - Saturday 15th August & Sunday 16th August
Trent Rowing Club members excelled at Stourport Boat Club’s 2009 Regatta weekend. The two day event was held on the river Severn in Stourport, racing over a 1000m course on the Saturday, with the following day’s sprint event raced over 450m.
Saturday’s first success for the Club saw Rob Arnold beating Rob Jephcote from Burton Leander in Men’s senior single sculls event. In his next event, Arnold joined forces with Jephcote to race in the Men’s senior double sculls event as a Burton Leander / Trent composite crew. The duo raced with confidence, convincingly beating a home crew to claim the silverware.
Hayley Emmerson and Amy Levitt ventured out to compete in Women’s IM1 double sculls. Facing strong competition from Grosvenor Town RC, the Trent twosome gained an early lead which they never relinquished to take the event win.
Laura Wheeler took to the water to race in Women’s IM2 single sculls. Competing in a single for the first time in five years, Laura gained an early lead against her Bridgnorth opposition which she defended right up to the line to add a further win to the Club’s tally.
Jake Wheeler and Ben Eames competed together for the first time in Men’s J15 double sculls. Winning their way through the event, the duo faced a Stourport crew in the final. Making light work of their foe, Wheeler and Eames powered across the line to take the event.
Sam Corden and Oliver Boast also overcame opposition from Stourport Boat Club in the semi final of Men’s Novice Scull to progress to the event final. Facing Evesham Rowing Club in the final, Corden and Boast drove home an early lead to gain the Club’s sixth win of the day.
Returning in good spirits the following day, Team Trent were determined to add to the Saturday’s results.
Ben Eames raced up an age group in Men’s J16 single sculls. Far from finding himself out of his depths, Eames excelled, beating a crew from Bewdley Rowing Club on his way to the final. A Hollingworth Lake sculler provided his opposition in the final, pushing Ben hard all the way to the line. Ben’s determination won through, and he maintained his lead to win the event by one length.
Robert Williams, Antony Scott, Robert Gipson and Kenny Holmes took part in the Men’s IM2 quad sculls event. In the straight final against Worcester Rowing Club the Trent quad went hard off the start, took a lead and defended it throughout the course to take the event.
Trent’s Junior Women rounded off the weekend with an excellent performance in the J14 coxed quad sculls event. The crew of Antonia Matthews, Jess Dickinson, Eloise McMahon and Amy Steer, coxed by Will Reynolds, showed their class in the straight final against Stourport Boat Club. Powering through their opponents every stroke the Trent girls won the event in convincing style to add win number 9 to the weekend’s campaign.
Trent Rowing Club’s 9 wins over the weekend marked the most successful away regatta the club has seen in several seasons. It was also notable that every Trent competitor who raced at Stourport brought home silverware.
