Superb performance by Ben Eames
Two Trent RC athletes raced at the 2009 National Rowing Championships of Great Britain, racing over Nottingham’s Holme Pierrepont 2000m course.
Racing for the first time at this event, club junior, Ben Eames competed in the Men’s J15 Single Sculls event. Facing opponents from all around the country Ben first had to qualify through a time trial stage of the competition. Ben performed well to become one of the fastest 12 from the 30 entered scullers to progress to the semi finals.
Ben came first in his Semi final, winning convincingly to secure his place in the final of the event on the following day.
Racing hard over the multi lane course Ben was in the head of the pack with three other scullers for most of the running. As the race came into the closing 200metres all the scullers pushed for the finish line. Ben finished a respectable fourth place, just missing out on the medals.
