Loughborough Regatta - 17 June 2007

Trent Rowing Club travelled to the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham on Sunday to compete at Loughborough Regatta.

First to race over the 1000 metre course was Matthew Purdy in the Semi Final of Mens Junior 14 Sculls. Sculling well Purdy commanded the race from the start, leading the field for the majority of the race. Once qualification was guaranteed following the capsize of another sculler, the three remaining competitors eased up as they crossed the line.

Returning to the water in the final of the event Purdy pushed hard and achieved a time faster than that of his previous race. Despite this he was unable to match the ability displayed by his opponents finishing fifth overall.

Next to race was Nick Edge in Mens Senior 1 Sculls. In the straight final of the event Edge and an opponent from Nottingham and Union Rowing Club pushed ahead of the trailing pack. Taking it all the way to the line Edge finished just two seconds behind the sculler who won the same event a week earlier at the Metropolitan Regatta in Eton

Edge later rowed over in the straight final of Mens Elite Sculls after his opposition, whom he beat in the Senior 1 event, failed to show. Not letting this be an excuse to take it easy Edge recorded another impressive single sculling time.

Kenny Holmes and Robert Gipson competed together in the straight final of Mens Senior 2 Double Sculls. Never really finding their stride the duo managed to hold off opposition from Nottingham Rowing Club but failed to challenge the rest of the field.

Holly Davies sculled well on the multi lane international standard rowing lake in Womens Junior 14 Sculls. Davies gave her all after struggling to find form in events at other Regattas earlier in the season.

Matthew Purdy combined with Edward Needham of Burton Leander to race in Mens Junior 14 Double Sculls. This newly formed duo performed well in their heat and qualified for the final of the event.

Gemma Barker raced well in her straight final of Womens Novice Sculls. Facing opposition from Burton Leander, Barker took control of the race early and sculled neatly to take the event win.
