“About Trent RC” could say a lot about the quality of our coaching staff, who are there for our Junior & Senior squads, it could talk about our great club atmosphere predicated upon a diversity of personalities (we all know what makes for good club humour). We could & should mention all of those who support our Social rowing, Club events, but I thought it more appropriate to mention our recent 24hour sponsored Ergothon, this sums up what we at Trent Rowing Club are all about, read on.

The 24 Hour Sponsored Ergothon was the brain child of Rob Arnold, Robert Gipson & Kenny Holmes, the sole purpose of which was to raise much needed club funds required to purchase additional Ergo's & Rowing Blades.

This small band of entrepreneurs convinced the committee & more importantly club members to give up their weekend (participating & recovering) for this extremely worthwhile venture.

Members both young and old, Parents and Friends of the club were united for this fantastic fundraising event.

                                                     

The combined efforts of everyone kept an Ergo ‘paddling’ for 24 hours. Those who participated during the Saturday afternoon were treated to a tasty barbecue and entertainment by the sculling expertise (and I use that term loosely) of Robert Arnold, Kenny Holmes and Nick Edge.

As the twilight hours crept up on those who volunteered to stay through the night, no amount of Energy Drink alone would sustain these poor souls. Luckily however several straight hours of playing on the Nintendo Wii games console kept morale high enough to continue.

With the sun rising on Sunday morning fresh faces appeared to relieve the night shift of their duties. Among these faces was the always welcome Jenny Atkin and of course her Bacon and Sausage Sarnies.

The atmosphere towards the end of the ordeal was brilliant. With everyone watching and ‘Eye of the Tiger’ playing in the background, Club Secretary Richard Gipson (aka Rocky BB) completed the final 15minute slot. Relentless was his pace in the dieing seconds pushing the total travelled to 316,921 metres.

An excellent achievement from all and with combined barbecue, bar takings the sponsorship will have exceeded our original target.
