The 2008 Summer Scratch Races and Barbecue were held on Saturday 16^th August and enjoyed excellent weather despite the adverse weather forecasts.

Handicap Scratch Singles in training boats and Scratch Quad Sculls were held, 16 entries were received to the singles event and 4 crews raced in the quads. We were delighted to welcome a good number of parents of our junior members, some of whom also took part in the racing following 'expert' coaching before being dropped in at the deep end!

The barbecue ran throughout the afternoon, and the bar was open for teas, coffees, alcoholic and soft drinks. The afternoon was a great success proving enjoyable and profitable to the Club.

Our thanks go to all who participated and to the spectators, and a special thank you goes to Burton Leander Rowing Club for loaning a coxed quad to allow the racing to go ahead in matched boats.

Our next social function will be a filmed Horse Race Night on Saturday 27^th September – details to follow. On 21^st September, our intrepid group of seniors will be taking part in the Boston Marathon (click here for details) to raise money for the boat fund.
