Captains Report October 2011

In my July Captains report I mentioned that Chris Williams had been selected to represent England at the Home Countries Regatta on 23rd July. Unfortunately I had neglected to follow up on this until now (sorry Chris).

Following a strong start by all competitors, Chris found himself in last place over the first 500m of the race. Showing an act of inspirational defiance Chris worked his way through the field and at the 1500m mark had surged his way into 2nd place. Unfortunately Chris’ further push for the finish line was matched by the leading Welsh sculler, Robbie Massey, who maintained his dominant position and won the event by 2 lengths. Still, 2nd place in an international event is an amazing achievement and something to be truly proud of. It should also be noted that Chris’ contribution helped England win the Team Trophy in the Junior Men’s event.

Another good weekend away for Trent Rowing Club over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We took part in the usual Dragon boat antics, where we placed 3rd, as well as having a very busy race schedule.

Saturday 27th saw the club juniors race at Gloucester Masters & Juniors Regatta. Eloise McMahon won W.J14.1x and Ellen Sutherland with Lucy Mason of Nottingham RC won W.J16.2x

On Monday 29th the seniors took their turn to add to the weekend wins at Ross. Robert Williams and Dan Corden won IM3.2-. Chris Williams, Matthew Pountney and Ellen Sutherland with Lucy Mason of Nottingham RC won Mx.IM1.4x-. Fiona Hill, Abi Grief, Rachel Bradford, Hayley McAdam, Natalie Maine, Jess Robson, Ellen Sutherland and Laura Bray coxed by Robert Williams won W.IM3.8+

The final wins at Ross regatta saw our season close with a grand total of 66 wins. Another excellent Year!!

The Christmas Party should be on Saturday 10th December. Raffle tickets will soon be given out and I would ask you all to do your very best to sell them. I am told we will be looking forward to an excellent prize list again this year.
